in the UK. In 1979 he worked his passage on a ship to Chile and assisted in church planting work with the South American Missionary Society. From 1980 to 1992, with SEAN (Study by Extension to All Nations), he prepared courses for the Latin American Faculty of Theological Studies (FLET, now FIET), and worked with George Patterson in the editing of the Train & Multiply church planting training materials. He was ordained in 1984. In 1992 he established the Missionary Training Service (www.missionarytraining.org) to help provide training for missionaries in developing countries aiming at the more unreached peoples, editing a series of missionary training booklets and producing several missionary training courses. Since 2002 he has been working on the Evangelical Training Database.
Ian joined the staff of the IMTN in February and donates a part of his work week to the development of the online missionary training directory (see below).

World Missionary Training Directory
|
The IMTN is working on a new World Missionary Training Directory. This aims to be an online multi-lingual searchable directory of all evangelical missionary training programmes world-wide. Dr Ray Windsor, who established the IMTN, made two editions of the training directory, the second of which was prepared in the early 90’s. The new project is being carried out by Ian Benson, Associate Director of the IMTN with responsibility for Information Services, and David Pass, the Administrator of the Evangelical Training Database.
The Evangelical Training Database is a free searchable online database at www.trainforChrist.org/english with information on evangelical pastoral, theological and missionary training courses world-wide. The goal is that people everywhere can more easily find the training they need to serve God. Now available in Afrikaans, Dutch, English, French, German, Portuguese, Serbian and Spanish, the interface is also being translated into other languages. Arabic, Chinese, Korean and Russian are nearly ready. The aim is that there be one database with information on all evangelical courses world-wide which can be accessed through many interfaces in different languages. Searches can be carried out by subject category, keyword, academic level, country and region.
If you run a missionary training programme, you can already register for the World Missionary Training Directory. To do this, go to www.trainforChrist.org/english and click on “Register Your Training Organization” in the left hand menu. During the process of registration, please select “World Missionary Training Directory” under Evangelical Associations. After registering you can enter details of your missionary training courses.
