Projects and Programs of the IMTN 2007-2008

1. Course/Manual Development for Integral Ministry Training

Fundamental to the work of the IMTN is to help program leaders understand and value whole person ministry training and show them how to develop programs along the lines of contextually determined, best practices. A course and manual has been developed that provides critical information and step by step processes for developing effective curriculum and programs. Translation of this material is being done in Spanish, and proposed for Portuguese, French and Korean. The English version, Integral Ministry Training Design and Evaluation, is available in book form from www.missionbooks.org. (external link)

The course will be offered at Asia Theological Seminary in Manila from April 16-20, 2007 with Drs. Rob Brynjolfson and Jonathan Lewis. Contact ATS for registration information. (external link)

2. Spanish Language M.A. Curriculum Development

Curriculum development research leading to the establishment of M.A. level programs in Spanish for missionary trainers is underway. An initial consultation in Córdoba, Argentina (April 2005) produced a comprehensive profile of training packages and needed competencies for trainers in Latin America.

3. Spanish course package manual.

At the request of COMIBAM International, a research project is being scheduled for 2008 to create a manual that outlines courses and resources fundamental to missionary training. This will include pre-field training as well as addressing the needs of on-field or “in-service” training. The product, including specific course packages, will be used to help standardize missionary training and give new centers a jump start on developing their programs. This project is being carried out in full collaboration with the MC affiliated COMIBAM regional missions movement.

4. IMTN Resource Centers Development

It is the dream of the IMTN to have Key Resource Centers scattered throughout the globe. These centers look out for the interests of other training programs in their region/language group. IMTN staff is involved in visiting different nations with missionary training movements to encourage the development of these centers. Countries visited to date include Argentina, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Guatemala, Nigeria and India. A key component of these visits is the offering of the IMTN course, Integral Ministry Training Design and Evaluation. The IMTN staff will accept invitations from national missionary training bodies to teach this course and help establish a higher level of cooperation.

5. Consultancy

The IMTN and its associates are committed to helping initiate missionary training programs based on integral ministry training and best practices. This includes site visits and correspondence based self-assessment and consultancy. To the extent possible, regional IMTN Associates will perform site visits. Modest expenses incurred by this activity should be borne by the benefiting center whenever possible.

6. In-service Training

The IMTN convened a meeting in London, November 21st, 2007, facilitated by Global Connections, to assess in-service training needs. One of the goals of the IMTN is to facilitate the collaborative development and delivery of in-service training resources. Providers (Schools) and users (Agencies and their missionaries) gathered to discuss how to meet this growing need more effectively. A research project is forming the base of this ongoing discussion that will discuss the goals of in service training as defined by this consultation.

7. Develop theIMTN.org site in multiple languages

Accompanying the “on the ground” activity of IMTN staff and associates is a functional, Internet delivery system for resources and materials needed by trainers in various languages of instruction. While much of missionary training is delivered in English, the use of Spanish, Portuguese, French and Korean is extensive. Additional languages such as Chinese, Arabic and Russian are also growing in importance as languages of missionary instruction.

Collaborators on this project are urgently needed. Contact Rob for more information.
